Rep. Davis Statement on Senate Student Loan Agreement
Champaign, IL – U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today released the following statement in response to the Senate, this week, approving a bipartisan compromise to take Congress out of the business of setting student loan rates.
“I’m pleased that the Senate took the House’s lead in putting people before politics by approving legislation that will reverse the student loan rate increase that went into effect on July 1 and provide a solution to rates moving forward,” said Davis. “The agreement approved by the Senate on Wednesday is similar to legislation that was passed by the House in May. It takes Congress out of the business of setting student loan rates by moving federal student loans to a market-based interest rate and provides some much-needed, long-term certainty to students and their families. This agreement is a huge victory for both students and their families and hard-working taxpayers. I look forward to supporting this legislation as soon as it is brought up for a vote in the House.”
