Ebola: Davis Wants Travel Ban, Hospitals Want Direction
Clear directions is what local health care professionals said they need regarding Ebola. Their congressman says he'll pass on their concerns, along with a request for a travel ban.
Rep. Rodney Davis, (R) IL-13, held a roundtable discussion at SIU School of Medicine Thursday with health care professionals from around the area. Davis said he would call for a travel ban for foreigners coming from West African countries stricken with Ebola.
"This is an issue that wouldn't be long term, but it's an issue that needs to be done to ensure that America is prepared for not just one Ebola outbreak but multiple, or any," the Illinois Republican said.
While the issue of travel was discussed at the roundtable, it wasn't the issue at the forefront of other panelists' minds.
"We've implemented all the guidelines that the CDC recommends," said Dr. Rajesh Govindaiah, Memorial's chief medical officer, "but the question we're asking is, 'are they sufficient?'"
