Biotech Subcommittee Chair Davis Welcomes Cerro Gordo Grain Supplier, Other Witnesses at House Ag Committee Biotech Hearing
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today released the following statement after a House Agriculture Committee hearing examining mandatory biotechnology labeling laws. Davis welcomed witnesses testifying before the full committee including Lynn Clarkson, president of Clarkson Grain Company, from Cerro Gordo, IL located in Davis’ district. Davis is chair of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research.
"Biotech labeling is an important issue that we cannot afford to get wrong," said Davis. "A patchwork of inconsistent or unnecessary regulations from states could add hundreds to a family's grocery bill each year. As we continue this discussion regarding labeling, we must remember the benefits biotech has on our environment and the role it plays in feeding a growing population."
Clarkson testified on the need to ensure this issue surrounding biotechnology labeling is resolved for all farmers, regardless of their production practices. A full list of witnesses and written testimony can be found here.
