Davis’ Bill to Protect Religious Freedom Passes House Unanimously
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today announced that the EACH Act, his bill to protect religious freedom by expanding the religious conscience exemption under Obamacare, passed the House with unanimous support.
“Obamacare violates our most basic right of religious freedom by forcing people to buy health insurance against their faith or otherwise face a penalty,” said Davis. “The EACH Act broadens the religious exemption to ensure those who rely solely on a religious method of healing, like Christian Scientists, are not forced to purchase health insurance when these services violate their religious beliefs. As the representative of Principia College, the only Christian Scientist school in the country, I believe this legislation is vital to protecting the religious liberties of many of my constituents.”
Davis spoke in support the EACH Act on the House floor today. Video of his speech can be found here.
H.R. 2061, the Equitable Access to Care and Health (EACH) Act, exempts individuals who rely solely on a religious method of healing and whose acceptance of medical health services would be inconsistent with their religion from being forced to purchase health insurance or pay a tax penalty under the Affordable Care Act. Text of the legislation can be found here.
This is the second bill authored by Davis to pass the House and provide Americans with much-needed relief from Obamacare. The first, the Hire More Heroes Act, passed the House earlier this year and was signed into law on July 31.
