Davis Statement on President’s Visit to Illinois General Assembly
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today released the following statement after President Obama delivered remarks before the Illinois General Assembly:
“I appreciate the president traveling to my district and his message of bipartisanship but actions speak louder than words and I hope he takes this advice back to Washington as well. Unfortunately, I have not seen a lot of bipartisanship from this president since I came to Congress. Just yesterday, he released his most divisive budget yet – a budget that uses the same failed tactics that leaders from his own party have used in Springfield for decades. The president’s budget raises taxes, increases spending, and furthers a climate change agenda that will increase gas prices by 24 cents per gallon. Illinoisans know all too well what increased taxes and spending does to economic growth. That’s why in the coming days and weeks Republicans in Congress will put forth a budget that balances, addresses the true drivers of our nation’s debt, and creates a pro-growth economic environment.” Davis joined Speaker Paul Ryan and members from House leadership this morning to speak about the president’s budget and visit to Springfield.
