Davis Statement on Retirement of Speaker Ryan
Washington, DC- U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today released the following statement after Speaker Paul Ryan announced his retirement at the end of this year:
“I never thought I’d come to Congress and serve under the leadership of guy younger me, but I couldn’t have imagined someone more perfect for a job he didn’t plan for or seek out. Paul is now taking this opportunity to spend time with his young kids back in Janesville, Wisconsin. This is something I can absolutely sympathize with and I believe his understanding of the importance of family and the people back home has contributed to his success as national leader. While Paul understands tax and budget policy better than most, his dedication to advancing the priorities of the American people is what has made him a great speaker. His shepherding of the Better Way agenda helped us show the American people that Republicans have a plan that is aligned with their values and priorities.
“Under Paul’s leadership, the House has kept our promise to the American people to focus on legislation to improve the lives of people who have been forgotten by Washington for far too long. We passed the first major tax reform in more than 31 years to put more money back into the pockets of middle class families and have passed more than 400 additional bills this Congress to deal with many issues facing our country. While we’ve had several great achievements, I’m confident we will have many more to come.”
