Davis Statement on U.S. Steel Hiring 300 Workers at Granite City Works
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) released the following statement after United States Steel Corporation announced they will hire 300 new employees to restart the second of two blast furnaces at the Granite City Works facility. In March, the company announced it would bring back 500 positions.
“This is great news for 300 people who will get back to work because our economy is growing and this administration was willing to stand up to illegal trade practices by countries like China. While this is good news for the steel industry, I continue to urge the administration to work with our allies to find a compromise and mitigate any impact this might have on other industries, like agriculture.”
Granite City Works cited market conditions and consumer demand, including the impact of Section 232, or steel tariffs, as contributing reasons for their ability to hire workers.
