Davis, LaHood Announce USDOT Grant for Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport
U.S. Reps. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) and Darin LaHood (R-Ill.) announced today that the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport has received a $3.4 million U.S. Department of Transportation grant which will continue the improvements being made at the main terminal building. The Congressmen released the following statements regarding the award:
“Investing in our infrastructure is a critical part of growing our economy and this grant is no exception,” said Davis. “Springfield’s Capital Airport is essential to bringing economic opportunity to the area and this grant will allow them to make necessary upgrades to improve service. As someone who frequently flies in and out of Springfield, I understand how important these investments are and I know my constituents will benefit greatly from these improvements.”
“After helping facilitate a meeting between the Federal Aviation Administration and Springfield community leaders to specifically discuss terminal improvements for the airport last summer, I had the pleasure of touring the airport and terminal last Fall to see firsthand the improvements needed for the local airport. It is critical for a regional airport like ours to remain competitive in such an evolving industry and I am thrilled to see the airport receive this funding to proceed on improvements at the terminal to better serve the region and its passengers with an exceptional flying experience,” said LaHood.
Mark Hanna, Executive Director of the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport added, “United States Representatives LaHood and Davis are to be commended for their continued support of the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield. These funds will be used to complete a multi-year commercial passenger terminal modernization program. Specifically, this phase will expand the terminal in the baggage claim waiting area, expand the secure lounge for outbound passengers and provide necessary updates for the TSA passenger security screening lane to provide a more expeditious and efficient process for our traveling guests.”
“This grant will significantly improve the terminal and the quality of service for our passengers, as well as strengthen our regional airport to remain competitive and enhance our economic opportunities. I anticipate that these upgrades will help grow our passenger base and hopefully attract additional air service to the Springfield area. I applaud the work of our community leaders and our Representatives in Congress for their hard work in helping bring this award to our airport,” stated Andy Van Meter, Sangamon County Board Chairman.
“As the largest city in central Illinois, Springfield’s Capital Airport serves a variety of industries every day including the medical community, the public sector, tourism and technology. Our airport is a key component in our local economy and aids in the economic development of the surrounding area. This grant funding comes at an important time. We appreciate the leadership of our federal legislators, including Congressman Davis and Congressman LaHood, for working to make this funding possible,” said Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder.
