Main Street Caucus Reaffirms Support for Pre-Existing Conditions Protections
Members of the Republican Main Street Caucus, led by Chairman Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), introduced a resolution reaffirming their support of protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions.
H.Res. 1066, sponsored by U.S. Rep. David Young (R-Iowa), expresses that protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions should be retained in law regardless of further amendments to or the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and in the case that a court ruling would hinder these protections, that Congress should act swiftly to reinstate them.
"As the husband of a cancer survivor, I understand just how important it is that individuals with pre-existing conditions are protected from being discriminated against," said Davis. "As we have said and done all along, people with pre-existing conditions should be and will be protected. Many of us fought for these protections in the AHCA and I thank Rep. Young for leading this resolution that reaffirms our support of maintaining those protections regardless of any future changes to Obamacare or a court ruling.”
"I have sat with families at Blank Children's Hospital and with Iowans with disabilities in their homes who, like me, want to ensure protections for those with pre-existing conditions remain strong," said Young. "I have always supported protecting those with pre-existing conditions and have ensured they can't be denied coverage or charged more. This is the latest of many steps I have taken to make sure Iowans with pre-existing conditions continue to have the protections they deserve and get the care they need."
