Davis Calls on Speaker Pelosi to Govern, Find Compromise with President Trump
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today voted against a partisan spending bill and called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi to work with President Trump and Leader McConnell to govern.
“I’m disappointed that Speaker Pelosi said this morning that she is absolutely unwilling to compromise on funding for border security and instead put a partisan bill on the floor that has no chance of becoming law," said Davis. "Providing a physical structure along our southern border has been historically bipartisan and it’s what our border agents have said is necessary to help them prevent illegal activity along our southern border. We need to end this government shutdown and the only way to do that is if Speaker Pelosi chooses to govern and work with President Trump and Leader McConnell to find a compromise.”
Pelosi said this morning on NBC’s Today show that she is unwilling to provide any funding for the border wall.
McConnell said prior to today’s House vote that he will not bring this bill to the Senate for a vote because it will not pass or be signed by the president.
Additionally, President Trump said he would veto the House bill earlier today.
