Davis Announces $502k in DOJ Violence Against Women Grants
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today announced several organizations within the 13th Congressional District will receive a total of $502,000 in grants from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office on Violence Against Women. These funds are authorized through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). In April 2019, Davis crossed party lines and voted in favor of VAWA, which passed the house 263-158. He was one of 33 Republicans to vote for the bill. According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 1 in 3 women experience some sort of sexual violence in their lifetime in America.
"These grant awards are timely as October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Earlier this month I visited Dove, Inc. to discuss these issues with those providing domestic violence services," said Davis.
