Davis Announces $17.275 Million to C-U MTD for Illinois Terminal Expansion Project
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) announced today that the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District was awarded a $17,275,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Buses and Bus Facilities Grant Program for the Illinois Terminal Expansion Project. This follows several supportive actions from Davis including a site visit in May of 2018, a letter of support for the project in May of 2019, and appropriations support for the program as a whole.
“Investing in our public transit systems means investing in jobs and economic growth. I'm proud to see Champaign-Urbana receive this highly competitive grant, which allows them to expand the Illinois Terminal through a innovative public-private partnership. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I will continue to be an advocate for projects that are critical to the communities they serve," said Davis. “This is such good news! This Federal grant for The Yards helps to fund a project that is the very definition of transformative. Expanding Illinois Terminal and partnering with our developer friends, the University of Illinois, and the City of Champaign to bring a vibrant progressive project like this into the core of our community is exactly the value that MTD has for Champaign-Urbana. We are lucky to have the support of Representative Davis who really carried the water for this grant application,” said Karl Gnadt, Managing Director, Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District.
