U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill) today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has awarded a $600,000 grant and 40 year, 1.375% interest loan of $1,095,000 to the City of Pana. The total federal support for the project is $1,695,000. The award is part of USDA Rural Development's Water and Waste Loan and Grant Program aimed at boosting rural communities water infrastructure. This grant will be used to construct new water lines around Pana Lake.
"I'm excited for the hundreds of Pana residents who will benefit from this water infrastructure investment,” said Davis. “This grant is a great example of the investments we need to make at the federal level to support our rural communities and their residents. This project will ensure safety and maintain water quality within the area."

This investment will be used to construct 11 miles of 4-inch and 6-inch water line to serve additional users that reside around Pana Lake. This project will alleviate a health and sanitary issue that exists due to individual contaminated wells currently being utilized. The project will be funded locally with Strategic Economic and Community Development funds due the project being included in the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Plan which covers Christian and Shelby Counties and will benefit 465 users in a multi-jurisdictional area.
