Washington, DC – Ahead of next week’s State of the Union Address by President Donald Trump, Republican Main Street Caucus Chairman U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) and co-chairs U.S. Reps. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.), and Fred Upton (R-Mich.) released the following statement:
“We came to Congress to govern effectively and make Washington work to improve the lives of American families. As Co-Chairs of the Main Street Caucus, we are committed to delivering solutions and sound policies that truly benefit the people we were sent here to represent. In President Trump’s State of the Union next week, we hope to hear his vision for commonsense policies and solutions to address some of the biggest challenges we face together.
“Tax reform is already delivering for the American people, and it is critical that we work to keep this momentum going on behalf of American business owners, families, and workers. Since these reforms have been enacted, nearly $2 billion has been invested back into the U.S. economy. More than 1.5 million workers have received nearly $2 million - and counting - in employee bonuses. Major U.S. companies like Apple, AT&T, Boeing, Home Depot, and others have announced new jobs and investments right here at home, and it’s expected that 90 percent of American wage earners will see an increase take-home pay as early as February.
“Building on this strong foundation, we are committed to investing in our nation’s roads, bridges and transportation systems and building on our strong economy so that small businesses can thrive. Let’s focus on policies that ensure Americans are able to succeed with workforce training programs that support these 21st century jobs and allow more families to pursue their own American dream. Part of helping our communities thrive is fighting back against opioid addiction, which is on the rise and now claims the lives of 115 Americans each day. Let’s give law enforcement, health officials, and families the resources they need to fight back. Another challenge we are committed to addressing is working with the White House and members of the House and Senate to secure our borders and find a permanent solution for DACA recipients.”
“There will always be issues that divide us, but we are optimistic that this Congress can set politics aside and find areas where we agree. Main Street members stand ready to work with President Trump and also reach across the aisle to address the challenges faced by our country. We hope our colleagues on the other side of the Capitol agree and will work with us to deliver results for the American people.”
